In the Sync of Life

I find myself in the throes of a contest and what is essentially the Survivor equivalent of winning a job. I am one of three finalists to become the video-blogging “Verity Mom”. I am thrilled! But how about this? Two hours after announcing the finalists Verity issued a challenge. I am up to the task! Or at least I was…

This morning, after downloading my kid to school and uploading my footage to iMovie, I ran into a sync problem. The audio isn’t matching up to the video. Yes, technical glitches are no stranger to anyone who works with technology. But they always seem so poorly timed! After searching the web, I see that my dilemma is common, but not easily fixed. Looks like a new set of mom interviews are in order.

Still on top of my list is my daughter’s birthday this weekend. I am pulling together a video of her “greatest hits.” The video has become a tradition in our family. Each year, I edit together different favorite moments from the past. It is my gift to her. And really, it is her gift to all of us. Gathering around the television and watching her grow up before our eyes, is something everyone looks forward to. The kids squeal, the adults laugh and she is so proud. Although it would be much simpler to buy her a Webkinz or more art supplies, the birthday video is a labor of love and a great way to de-emphasize stuff and really celebrate who she is.

So as I head out to interview more moms and shop for party supplies, it’s another opportunity to remind myself that when things do sync up, it might be worthwhile to stop and take notice. Like, “Yay, my kid DOESN’T have lice.” Or “Yay, the audio DOES match the video.” In the meantime, I’m off to make a little lemonade…
